Old Piano Blues is a labor of love by Dave and longtime musical collaborator and friend drummer/producer Lorne Entress. Through years of performing together Lorne and Dave envisioned a blues record with both great musical and sonic depth. They gathered some of the finest musicians in the world to contribute to this very special project. Great attention was given to the song selection and compositions, the “old” instruments utilized, the recording, mixing and mastering techniques and much more. Dave and Lorne are very proud of the deep soulful blues sonic ear candy yielded by their efforts.
Having performed with some of the greatest blues artists of all time they dug deep into the well of artistry they have been immersed in for decades. This allowed them to access the soul story that can only be expressed through the art of the blues. We hope you enjoy the sonic and artistic detail found in Old Piano Blues.
Dave chose Dimension Sound in Jamaica Plain MA to record after having done some sessions there. He was impressed by the 150 year old Kimball upright that is meticulously maintained and highly playable. Also an 85 key Steinway grand from the 1800’s with a huge, deep yet bright sound was equally attractive. Lorne played his vintage Ludwig kit and Kevin a vintage Kay and Tele guitars.
The basic tracks and some of the vocals were recorded by Joe Stewart and Dimension Sound. Additional vocals, guitars and organ at Harmony Street Studio by Lorne Entress. Odra Lee vocal recorded by Chris Horvath at The Cactus Tree Motel
